Systematic Literature Review and Meta Analysis
Systematic literature review with meta-analysis is one of the most important methods for reviewing scientific evidence on a topic. It begins with a literature search. In the medical field, this often involves using PubMed, although other search engines are available. The selected studies need to be appraised, as different study types offer varying strengths of evidence. For instance, Randomized Control Trials (RCTs) provide very strong evidence, while case-control studies offer weaker evidence. Meta-analysis is the most common method for synthesizing quantitative data, and the results are typically presented as a forest plot. If you're pursuing a PhD or any other research project, conducting a literature review is an essential first step.
